Every year, there are 80,000 publications entered into PubMed, but it takes an average of 17 years for this research to reach clinical practice. 17 years! Clinical practice guidelines are often written in natural expression language and saved as PDFs and stored in binders. When digitally optimized, the guidelines run the risk of becoming confined to proprietary healthcare IT systems, limiting our ability to share best practices across healthcare institutions. The objective of BPM+ Health is to use Business Process Management (BPM) modeling standards to author clinical guidelines that are open, shareable, and computable to deliver care that is informed, consistent, and connected to the patient as he or she travels among institutions of care.
- For professional healthcare societies that publish clinical practice guidelines, learn how to author guidelines that are human- and machine-readable, shareable, and automatable in Healthcare IT
- For software and technology providers, discuss how to implement standards-based clinical guidelines in healthcare solutions
- For healthcare delivery organizations, understand best practices for adopting standards-based clinical guidelines in care settings
- For clinical documentation improvement specialists, health informaticians, academics, standards developers, business analysts, and consultants, participate in professional development opportunities
